    2014 SHO questions

    Looking at a boat with a 2014 Yamaha SHO. This would be my first Yamaha in a long time and first SHO. It has very low hours for the year model at 144. My biggest concern is the compression #'s

    1-165
    3-160
    5-160

    2-155
    4-155
    6-150

    Is that 150 something I should be concerned with?

    Anything else I should know about the 2014 year models?

    I am not knowledgeable enough to make a call on the compression, but my 250 SHO is a '14 with 175 hours and has been a beast. They had already changed the thrust bearing issue by then, so that shouldn't be an issue.

    I'd like to see them in 160+ range but those are good numbers.

    Thanks Rich, so you wouldn't be all that concerned that the 2,4,6 are all below 160 and the 6 is 150?

    2,4,6 are all about the same with one cylinder not standing way out over another, that side may have more wear causing the lower compression. That wear might not be the cylinder wall(s) themselves, but something in the valve train, head or head gasket etc....

    My guess would be the valves. Not worth worrying over I don't believe. Back in the day (as my kids say). I had a high performance 4 valve per cylinder motorcycle. I used the high performance a lot. I lost a little bit of that performance, we pulled the head and lapped the valves and did nothing else. Got all the performance back.

    Probably has one thermostat running slightly different temp than the other. Also was this a warm or cold engine?

    Not sure. Printout from mechanic so hope/assume it was done right. If I get real serious, I'll probably hire a shop to run again but wanted to hear other opinions to see if I should even proceed.

    Hey, how did this work out for you? I'm looking to purchase a boat 2014 Skeeter, Yamaha SHO 200. Compression results:
    1 = 160
    2 = 135
    3 =160
    4 = 160
    5 = 145
    6 = 160

    I believe this was a cold engine test.
