Fix or replace?

My 1198c SI keeps freezing up so I can either send it back to Humminbird under the flat fee repair program and have it fixed for $500 or spend about $400 more and buy a new Helix 10 SI/GPS. Given the specifications seem very similar is the Helix 10 worth the extra money?

Actually the Helix 12 replaced the 1100 series and the Helix 10 replaced the 900 series.
In both cases the MSRP is the same and you gain a larger, much brighter, and higher quality display.
PLUS those Helix units have built-in Auto Chart Live.

Common reasons for units locking up are corrupt or duplicate waypoints and power issues ..... have you eliminated these as a possibility?

Powers good and I've ran my waypoints through Humminbird PC and don't see any duplicates. I'm going to erase all the waypoints off the unit and use it a couple days to see if it stops freezing up on shut down.

Do a Format Nav Directories to erase them.

Corrupt waypoints is an issue. If you rename them using spaces or symbols, that can cause issues.

I did that last week and it still freezes when shutting down. I do however have a hand full of waypoints I renamed that have spaces in them so I'll try just putting them back to just a generic number. Thank you!
