Unhappy Getting my butt handed to me.......

Its been a tough crappy(ie) start to the season this year...i usually start in November and go till January/February and can catch fish or at least bring some home to clean but this year has been tough and horrible.....my setup is 2 jig poles with 4 jigs tied to each and i troll around for them.....dont mess with shiners but there is a guy i know that keeps posting on FB and he's tearing them up....we fish the same lake/places, even fished by him a few weeks ago.....the difference, he's using shiners and i'm not....my next trip out i'll have a bucket full of shiners and i better catch them....

Never hurts to try. Good luck and let us know how it works out for you! I have to be moving if im fishing so live bait isnt much of an option for me but there are a lot of success stories with it. Are shiners equivalent to shad or minnows?

If you fish the right color, minners ain't needed. Active fish will pounce on them. Keep changing color. Right now, blue/chartreuse and purple/chartreuse are my go to colors.

Nope, you want emerald shiners. You will drop one 4 or 5 times trying to get a hook into it.

Around Indiana they get them from the Ohio River and lake MI. You might check with a hatchery and is if they are available in your area.
They are a fragile fish, but with a bubbler they will last a few days on the water
