    Prorule Transom Saver

My 2018 ZX came with a Prorule transom saver with the steering clips.

What is the general consensus of this contraption? I知 not asking about the debate over traditional transom savers vrs. newer styles.

Rather, I知 asking specifically about the Prorule brand and the clips.

I was was watching my motor while trailering this afternoon. That motor moves around quite a bit, but it is especially noticeable side to side even with the clips installed. I知 also a bit concerned over what those clips will do to the steering ram seals over time.

I understand this thing is provided by Skeeter, however, on my last brand I don稚 recall seeing all that movement back there.

Tell me your thoughts. Did you upgrade to something along the lines of a Motormate?

Went to motormate because of the left/right movement, plus its quicker to reomove/install/stow

I've had a Pro Rule for every Yamaha I have owned. They have been flawlese. Hauled quite a few miles with them and never an issue with it or any issues with motor caused by it.

I'm guessing since Yamaha and Skeeter ship the boats with them they must feel they work.

mine seems to work fine. I don't think any of the clips fit extremely tight.

I have a 2017 FX LE and the only problem I had with is if I didnt trim the motor down really tight on the Prorule the motor would turn left or right while traveling. Once I trimmed down though no more problems.

So, MotorMate eliminates the need for the steering clips on the Yammies?

i went through 3 prorule transom savors. They all bent in same place. For some strange reason I was told this was the only time they seen that happen. I guess its not strong enough for our lovely Louisiana roads. Had a machinist replaced the middle part with stainless steel.

    MotorMate - Rock Solid

Here's a good video on how the MotorMate works with the Yamaha's.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=XqcPa3eXJ-g

It does not need steering clips.

I will be getting rid of the ProRule and going back to the MotorMate. Had one before on a previous rig and it worked great.

I don't like how far you have to trim the engine up to get the ProRule in position and there is still some play from the engine even with the clips in place.

Couple of trips out with the prorule now & I'm going back to motormate. It locked the merc on my last rig down with zero movement. No reason to think it'll be any different with the yammie.

With the motormate does your motor ride as high or is it a little lower than the Prorule I like the idea of not using the clips anymore

From what I experienced installing my MotorMate this weekend, it does allow you to tilt down farther. Its not a huge difference, but I could not clear the top of my garage with the ProRule, got about 1" clearance now.
