    2004 TR196 DASH MOUNTED ELECTRONICS

I recently purchased an 04' TR196 with no electronics, I have a Hook 9 on a RAM mount I will put on the bow and I was wondering if a Hook 7 would fit in the dsh or would I need a different dash bezel? Will a Hook 5 fit in the standard opening?
Now there is a plate mounted in the dash, the previous owner kept all the electronics.
    Thanks

The Tr196 has petty much the same dash as the Tr186 and in the factory dash your pretty much stuck with 5 inch unit.

I have a HDS-7 mounted on a custom made mount, I had a machine shop fab up for me, I changed the console panel to a factory one without the cut out then had a custom mount made that keeps from hiding the gauges, wrapped it in carbon fiber.

Red186 would you mind posting up some pics of your new dash? I'm changing up my dash panel as well and any ideas would be appreciated.

He was asking about in dash mounting. The Helix looks good though.

If your wanting to surface mount, a 5 is as big that will fit and that is with a lot of trimming, any bigger and you are getting into the gauges, even with a blank bezel I had to get a custom mount made to get a HDS-7 in that space.

I am in the process of re-doing my electronics and have been looking for a solution to the 5" screen limitation in the dash.

What did you use for the cover over the hole, and how did you attach the gimbal to it? Did you do anything to secure the dash to the console better than the screws that hold it in place? Finally, did you do any extra bracing behind the dash?

So in the tr186 there are 2 fiberglass supports that go from the front of the windsheils back towards the dash. I sandwiched 2 fiberglass boards above and below to create a cross member. I put a 2" ram ball on the top, screwed and epoxy'd. I made a filler plate same size as the lowrance x51 that was in that dash, drilled a 2" hole in the center, sealed and painted the filler peice black and clear coated. Stuck the ram mount through the hole andclamped it down real tight. I might have to tighten it up once or twice a season but it holds on erie so i'm good with it. The filler peice in the dash is made from marine plywood.

My 196 has those same supports. Curious as to why you didn't use the marine grade plywood instead of fiberglass boards? How thick did you make them so you wouldn't get any flex?

I just had the fiberglass board, couldn't even remember what it was for but it worked out. I think it took the epoxy better than a wood. If i was to go back and do it again i would probably do it solid aluminum.

I didn't take the time to scroll through every one listed in here.....but Great Lakes Skipper has triton dashes that fit larger units. If the link below doesn't work, just type in Triton dash into the search bar
