I had the same questions two years ago on my1999 TR21. I went with a new powerhead from Hydrotec. So far, I am very pleased. I also had new electronics, and trolling motor.

I would also call Chris Carson Marine and get an estimate from him. He may have a block for your rebuild.

I would look for a good used motor with low hours see them from time to time.

Out of your options, it would depend on how long you plan on keeping this boat. New powerhead is a no brainer if you plan on selling in like 5 years time but if you plan on keeping it a long time, I’d at least consider a new SHO.

Just with a re power to a new SHO, you will never get what it’s worth if you sold anytime soon or if ever...

I’d look more into a re power with a used motor in clean condition or send it in to get
    Fixed!

I went through the same thing last year on my 03 250 hpdi. Had it rebuilt under 5k with new everything and it has run great. I would like to repower in the future cuz i love my 03 tr21. Beautiful boat. And now that i got the motor redone i cant seem to need an upgrade as of now. Its running like a top and a lot cheaper than a new motor. That being said i had also just bought the boat so i didnt have the funds to repower either. Get a reman from hydrotech or call chris carson and see if he has one ready to go. He could ship it and have your local shop bolt it on. He was incredible helping me with mine.

If you like and are happy with the hull and accessories then repower is a no brainer.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Seems the consensus is what I figured, have Hydro Tec rebuild my motor. About 99% sure that's the route i'm going to go. I keep trying to convince myself to upgrade to a newer boat but then I look at mine and it's pretty much everything I want in a bass boat.

I was faced with this. Had a 21 foot boat, dual console, really liked the boat. We rebuilt it, new crank all the way out. It was a 225 Mariner and was like 10 years ago, had it done for a around $4000. Absolutely worked out great. Never had an issue with it and used it 3 to 5 days a week to fish for 5 years.

Another guy I know bought one that had just been rebuilt and blew in a couple months. Couldn't get the builder to stand behind it. (different guy than who I used)

I would repower if it was me.

With the prices of new boats it even newer boats no thanks.
that 11k difference between a new motor and rebuild buy a ton of fuel.
Would buy a newer boat before I put a 16k motor on your boat unless you were keeping it for 10 years or more

Hydrotech motors have a following and hold their used value pretty well.

    Rebuild it.
