Doesn't the standard toter lessen the weight on the transom?

I would think so but you also have 2 objects (boat and trailer) that will each do their own thing will going down the road and that could be stressing the transom also. Personally I dont believe one way is going to save a boat while the other method will ruin a boat but I had other reasons. 1. I still have cable steering and with the old toter my motor would turn some while driving. My ocd wants the motor straight. 2. When I received my boat from the 3k mile trip across the country the old toter had scarred my sportmaster. Not bad enough to cause issues but deep enough to be into the metal. 3. I have forgotten to remove the toter before and it drops in the river when launching. The motormate can not be missed when launching. Boat wont steer with it installed. And if you do launch it doesnt just fall off into the water.

Go to the search and look up transom saver or motor toter and you will see what they mean. People just giving opinions back and forth on what they “believe” to be the superior method. My engineering brain can see the pros and cons to both but cannot except one as the end all be all. When I bought my boat through Sandersons I discussed this issue with Lee and the way I remeber the conversation was him basically saying “both methods work, buy what you like best”.

    have to agree..
IMO-- When done CORRECTLEY a well designed transom saver works.. I used to make my own that did not touch the LU but went to the lower motor mounts. Keep in mind if the boat is not well secured to the trailer it will do more harm than good -- plus you will still need steering blocks to stop side to side motion!!
I have used the Motor mate with great results for several years now. They do a fantastic job of securing the motor and you can give the steering blocks away. A couple of things I do on long trips -- trim the motor up high enough to be centered above the transom to help alleviate cantilever weight.. also run the Hydro J-plate all the way down. Also check that things are still secured when stopping for fuel etc.

You would be better off asking if a Dem or a Rep would make a better President than to ask that question. LOL

BTW, I just ordered a red one this morning if that makes any difference. This will be my 4th one over the years.

Your welcome my friend. I use this particular toter because it does as good as any and is for sure easier to put on and take off. I'm not sold that anything protects or hurts the transom. An Allison transom is strong enough to not need anything in all likelihood.

I'm pretty sure plowing around in rough water is much harder on the boat than a transom saver.
