That sounds like virtually every Mercury I have been around! The only two things are to lube the roller balls on the end of the trim rods. This is a monthly maintenance item BTW (for me anyway). If you notice the sound starts as it hits the trim bars. Along with not lubing the roller balls, you can score the striker plates that the balls hit. Secondly, there is a small probability it could be the trim fluid level being slightly low...doubtful but possible.

I have owned 4 different mercs and 2 yamaha's since 2008 and can honestly say I've never heard that type of screeching after hitting the trim rods.

IMO they need lube (greased) at 0hrs, and then every month.
That noise is louder than I would be happy with, if greasing the trim rod ends doesnt fix it Id check fluid level, if it wasnt that you should take it in for warranty repair, if nothing else so that it's documented in case it fails later

Interesting mine does the same thing brand new. Just curious if you ever found out what it was, or if this was normal

Found this in the search. My motor is making the same noise when it hits the trim rods. Did you find the problem?
