Mandarin Duck - Old Hickory Tennessee

On one of the Tennessee duck hunting facebook groups, a local hunter posted a pic of a very rare duck - a Mandarin Duck that he had shot on Old Hickory Lake.

I had never heard of or seen one of these ducks and I did some research. Apparently, they are native to eastern China, Japan, and parts of Russia. Some were brought to the US and escaped. They are simply stunning birds and the only invasive species from China that I would welcome.

Jase Robertson kills one in one of the duck commander videos. A guy on reel foot killed one a few years ago banded from an aviary in sikeston mo.

Cool duck. I believe pheasants were brought from China.

A guy I know actually shot one of those this year in NH at his local wood duck hole. They are a truly beautiful bird... saw a few live ones when I was in Alaska.
