    New scope for hunting rifle

Looking for some advice, I am looking at picking up a new hunting rifle in 6.5 creedmoor. Possibly a 700 sps and was wondering what kind of scope one might suggest as it has been a while since I have bought one. Most shots would be less than

200 yards, and not looking to break the bank

Leupold VX II would be a good fit for that gun.

200 yards max, yea I'd agree with that. All my scopes are VX3 except one VX2 4x12x40 that I have on a 257 WM and it works fine on it. Have shot pigs and coyotes past 200 with it. I would say go higher than a 9 power.

Paired my VX-II with a 700 mtn rifle 24 years ago and been very happy out to 200 yds and beyond.

I have been impressed with Vortex optics. I have one on my Remington custom shop 308. It makes 800 yard shots pretty easy.

Mr Jones, how do you like the 257? Recoil about like a .06?

200 yards is nothing for a 6.5 and I think you will get bored with it if you like to shoot at all. I have a Zeiss conquest HD5 3-15 X 42 with a Z800 reticle which allows for 800 yard shoots with little to no adjustment when set. I caught it on a Black Friday sale so was able to pick it up for $649 which I thought was a good deal. I took it out for the first time last Saturday and easily set it up and took it out to 600 yards on 10 inch steel.

another vote for a Conquest, checkout Cameraland out of NY. I have bought scopes and binos from them, he does a lot of advertising on 24 Campfire.

I've got a Nikon Prostaff that I really like. I don't care much for the BDC reticle but that's all that had and I needed a scope. On feature I would be looking for is finger adjustments and the ability to reset the dial to zero when you zero it in.

I like it fine, lots of energy in the speed of a 257WM. Recoil is just fine, but I regularly shoot a 300win mag without a muzzle break and it doesn't bother me either.

    In fact I sold a 25 06 to buy the 257WM, I like it a lot more than the 25 06. I shoot a 120 grain in it.

I have been shooting a .257 Weatherby Magnum for close to 20 years. The recoil is more like a .243 than a 30.06. I have a 8x56 IOR scope on mine and have killed deer at 450 yards with it.

Really, the 257 WM case has a 84 grain powder capacity, 30-06 has 68 grain and the 243 has 54. You must have a really heavy rifle or really light loads if the recoil is that light.

It is factory Weatherby loads. The 257 is only pushing a 100-115 grain bullet compared to a 150-165 in a 30-06. The weight of the bullet makes as much or more difference than the powder does in recoil.

I put the bushnell ar series scope for the 6.5 creedmor on mine and zeroed at 100 yards the dots have been dead on. For your application you will be happy with it. I got the scope at cabelas black friday sale for 99.00.

Leupold has the same warranty. Have a 25 yr old pair of binos that I dropped and knocked the alignment out. Fixed with not questions asked. Didn't even have to pay return shipping.
