    Cleats or spikes

I'm gonna need a new pair of spikes this year as mine were really dry rotted last year. Anybody have any recommendations? I want a good pair rather than a cheap pair.

This is the best recommendation I can give you. Kahtoola ice spikes!!! Walk over all the Rock and concrete you want and you'll still have amazing traction to run across glare ice and stop on a dime 2 years later.

+1 For the Kahtoola spikes. I love mine and they don't fall off my boats like my Yak Trax did.

You can climb trees with the things. They are very easy to take off and put on as well. My top 3 spikes that I have used in the last 18 years have been the original full boot Creepers which were good but wore out fast then at #2 the Yakatraxs which were nice but fell apart fast and could slide on the ice still plus they would build up with snow and ice and be useless. But hands down best ones all round are the Kahtoolas you won't be disappointed.

I just use the $20 Yaktrax chains from Fleet Farm that look like tire chains. They work very well...had them out on Upper Red this past weekend actually and had no issues whatsoever. Only complaint is if you get them wet in heavy snow, the snow will stick to them. Since I don't wear cleats if there is snow on the ice, I saved the extra $30 I would've spent buying Kahtoolas.

I have them in my cart on Amazon. If I get out more often this year I will commit. Depends on how work goes.....if I only get out 3 times I'll just use my oldie-but-goodies. I forgot what they are.
