Where I thought the rim that exploded on my trailer was a Tracker original rim that came with the boat I found out that I was wrong in that assumption. I had sent pictures to Tracker and they answered today. Apparently the previous owner of the boat installed the rims as Tracker had never used split rims on their trailers. I sent my original message to them this past Tuesday and they next day they asked for my boat info which I gave them and they had the results and info this morning. Tracker’s customer service appears to be working hard to keep their customers happy by trying to resolve owner issues. I appreciate their efforts.

Your boat probly came with the same solid black wheel with the chrome covers and hub caps on it like mine did. They did that for several years.

Stan I cant say if my rims are the split type, but from outward
appearance your damaged wheel is the same as what I have,
and mine came on the trailer when new.
Failing to take responsibilty for anything anymore, seems to be

Those same rims came on my 2004 Nitro NX750 trailer when it was new. I think the Tracker rep is full of it!

Well, Tracker may be full of it. Regardless they are not going to do anything so I'm going to leave it all as a warning to everyone who has a trailer. Check your rims and if they are split rims you may want to consider buying a set of solid rims to put on your trailers.

Where those really split rims? I have never seen a split rim used on a trailer other than with dually axles. I cannot imagine a split rim being used on a light duty trailer and they are dangerous to work on without being trained on proper handling procedures.

I wondered this myself. I think the welds let loose or it was a defective wheel or something. I think split rims are a thing of the past other than on heavy equipment applications. Road vehicles you just dont see they are a death trap to work on

Roy you are correct, and Transom to. These are not the old fashioned split rims. However they are three pieces. You have the outside round donut that the tire goes on with the inside and outside hafts. They are welded together. These are the same rims that came on my 06. Anyone still running them should change. The welds on the inside on the top (inside the tire) will rust over time and fail. What your left with is the two inside and outside hafts still bolted to the hub. That is when you get stopped. And either a tire still on the donut. Or the tire and the donut chewed up and separated. At least that’s the way mine was built.
There are some of the cheaper white type rims sold today, as two hafts that are welded around the top inside of the tire sold. But there usually marked as short run spares only.

Bottom line the wheels were and are multi-piece rims. I've always known rims like this to be split rims. Call it what you want but, having a rim come apart at 60mph and doing that kind of damage to your trailer is not a good thing.

Nope never want anything with the tires and wheels to come loose. Thats one thing about steel wheels they are all 2 pieces welded together. Moisture can get trapped in between and they can rust out.
