    Suprised by a Skeeter

While on Chick today I was cruising along at 60 when I was passed by a FX20/250 SHO. Being the immature adult that I am at heart, I opened my PUMA/250 SHO up in order to catch and pass him. Catch I could, pass I couldn't. I was at 75 and still couldn't gain on him. Didn't realize those bugs were that quick.

Yep, your boat should run maybe 77-80 depending on load, water conditions and how well you can drive.

My skeeter runs 77 but its a ZX20 so its a lot lighter than the fx. Whoever was running that fx must have something figured out because the fastest one I have heard of is 76..

The Yamaha gets within 1-2 MPH of a Mercury two stroke and that is respectable with no oil to fill.

As for the performance, as stated earlier you obviously have a couple MPH to gain as most run into upper 70's and run dry into 80 MPH empty. Load does get you into the mid to upper 70's as pointed out.

Yep, the driver is the issue, not the boat/motor. I'm 14 years older (and slower) than when I had a 20' Jaguar with a 250XS Racing Optimax. I could get an easy 80 out of it.
On this one, I have a 26 SHO prop and can't get it to turn more than 5800 ish. I am 2.5" below the pad with a manual jack plate. Do I need a 27 pitch prop?

Most run the 25 ventless T1 propeller. The 26 is fine if you can get the desired hole shot. Usually the 26" is run too high we find and there is too much steering wheel torque as a result, which means it's less efficient.

Hole shot is fine. I also run full - 3/4 full of fuel most of the time. That adds a lot of weight as well. I just can't balance one on it's pad like I used to.
What brand is the 25 ventless T1?

ZX was definitely a faster hull than the FX.

There are a few fast Skeeters out there. My tournament partner runs a '14 FX20 with a 250 SHO. Tournament loaded and livewells full he can run 74. Empty he can touch 76. He is running the 26T2 and loves it. He keeps saying that he wants to line em up and run against my '17 Eyra which I am game for. I just want to get my worked 26 back before I do. The one area he will have an advantage on is holeshot. Even with livewells full his holeshot is as good as mine is empty.

No Eyra w a 250 should need a worked prop to beat a Skeeter
