I don’t know about the Mercury rating, but on Evinrudes, the 225 gets about .2 mpg better than the 250, so the 45 gallons still would go a little farther at comparable RPMs. I came out of a Z119 into a Z520 and used a little more gas, but with an additional 8 gallons of fuel capacity my range was increased.
Just crunched some numbers. If the 225 gets 4.2 mpg the range is 155 miles. And if the 250 gets 4.0 mpg, the range is 180 miles.

Good info as I have the 225 Pro XS on my Z119C, thanks for posting
Just swapped my 37 out of my Z119 and installed the Z520 tank from INCA . Not a job for the faint of heart but it can be done and done correctly. I had no choice if I wanted to make the runs we make to and from the launch.
Now my range is about 200 miles.

More input needed! How hard of a job was it? Price of the tank? I have a new z519 with 225 pro xs and the 37 gallon tank is not enough for me id love to do this unless you have to cut alot. I'd like to hear how you did it if you don't mind
I didnt know they had made the 520 so small. Many people around here wouldnt like that. I did see that the 520L size went back up

To upgrade the 37 here are a couple of the modifications. First you will need to order the INCA PN# 4620 fuel tank from Ranger as INCA doesn't sell direct.
With my installation I had to do the following:
1: Take a small amount of gel from the stringer as mine had build up and was too snug. (no big deal)
2: Cut approx. 1-2 inches away from the side panel beside the passenger seat. ( The seat will cover it)
3: Remove the grab handles under the seat. Made a couple of king board covers. (looks factory)
4: Make a couple of hold down brackets (20 minutes of work)
5: The new tank will have a charcoal EPA canister with a top that will extend above the bottom of the passenger seat height. This is simply remedied by taking a 4.5 hole saw and dremel tool to relieve the bottom of the seat so the seat will go back in properly. Only need about an inch and the way the seat is made it does NOT compromise the structural integrity at all in my opinion.
Hope this helps.
Hmm, I didn't realize they downsized the fuel tanks thru the yrs. Just didn't notice I suppose.
My 519VX has twin 24gal tanks.
