My 482vs has been in the fiberglass repair shop here at Pro's Choice Marine for the last several days getting some repairs and cosmetic updates done to it. I find this work fascinating and I see a lot of folks here on BBC asking about the process of fixing their boats up, so I thought I would document the process of mine as best I could so that all could see and learn.
First, a little info on my boat. It's a 1994 Ranger 482vs Bass Master Classic Edition with a '99 Evinrude FICHT that I bought several years ago from a friend that had it sitting in his garage unused for about 10 years. It took me about 2 months to get the engine running and water ready, and knock on wood it still runs great. I have done several updates along the way including carpet, seat skins, and equipment, and it has sure been a lot of fun working on this old gal. This rig is actually a "family member" as my wife says. My kids learned to fish out of it, we have taken it on multiple family vacations, Wyatt and I have actually won some BBC rally's out of this boat, needless to say we have made many great memories out of this old Ranger and I hope and pray I never have to get rid of it.
The clear coat on the top deck stripe was gone on over half of it, and thanks to Pro-Tec it looked good from a few feet away but felt like sand paper when you rubbed your hand on it. Several cracks were on the top cap.......my wife called them "smile lines" :) .......especially near the trolling motor mounts, a couple of stress cracks, and some boat dock rash. I have had this boat to 2 different fiberglass shops in the Truman Lake area for repairs to the bottom and had very disappointing results. About a year and a half ago I had a Hamby's installed at the last place, and it was a terrible installation. When I came to work at Pro's Choice Marine back in January it did not take me long to see the quality of work our shop produces. Danny and Rick are some of the best in the business and are perfectionists, I figured out real quick where the 482 was going to be headed this fall. They have already worked on my 518vx back in the spring, some of you may have seen the other thread I posted on it back then as well.
So to get this thread started here she is, this picture was taken about 1 year ago.......
