    10” jackplate on 18.5’ boat

Got a cant turn down price on a 10” jackplate . Want to put it on my 99 18.5’ G3 glass boat . Transom is solid with glassed in knees so I’m not worried about that. Do u think 10” of setback is too much ?

    thx

Skeeter zx190s come with 10"plates. I don't see any reason it would hurt yours. It should run a lot better

Will it fit in your garage? (Boat, motor and jack plate?)
No one can be wrong that often so it has to be deliberate.

Another thing to think about is having enough cables for the offset..

There are several guys around here that ran the old 361/364 Rangers with a 10” plate and a 175. You had to be able to control (drive) them but they would flat out run. I don’t recall any issues, at least that I’ve heard of.

I do too but when describing the speed "striped ape" has never came up
usually its described as being faster than other 361s or runs a lot better than one with a 150 or something to that effect

That added leverage enables them to get up on the pad instead of plowing. Its night and day over a 6"

my 2014 Phoenix 18'5 has a 10 inch atlas on it from factory. My only negative comment was that I was in shallow water last spring trying to get on plane and could not. No way of knowing if a 6 or 8 would have helped but in shallow water you realize how deep the boat goes when taking off.

My uncle had one of the 364s I was referring to. Totally different ride. I had one with an 8” plate on it and that 2” difference was huge over my father’s 364 which had a 6”plate. I suppose you could say we all had a thing for the 364s.

Only issue with a 10" is the added leverage on the transom. I know my ranger can handle it but most mfrs recommend strongly against it. As good as a 10 runs a 12 or 14 is that much better i just dont have my spacers yet
