Best Dobyns Champ XP for 3/8-1/2oz jig + trailer setup?

Which Dobyn's Champ XP would be better for 3/8-1/2oz. jigs + craw trailer fished in open to moderate cover with some thicker grass beds here and there,734c or 735c. I might like the tip action better on the 735c as I think it would be better for flipping and targeting holes, but I would like to hear what you guys would prefer given the choice.

    another vote for 735

There's a few sleeper models in the Champ lineup and the 735 is one of them. I also like the 804c for flipping despite it's Carolina Rig specs.

That is right in the sweet spot for the 744 IMO.

I think the 735 is better for moving baits like frogs, 3/4oz swing jigs personally. The sensitivity is ok, and I've caught plenty of fish on a jig with it but I think its a little too stout for the size jigs your wanting to throw on it. 3/8-1/2 I'd go with the 734 or a DX 744, but thats just me.

734 isn't stout enough for the 3/8-1/2oz range. better moving baits rod. i've used the 725 for 3/8oz jigs and it worked great. sensitive enough, but obviously the dx hp is the better choice being the 745

The champion XP 744 was made and designed to use with 1/2oz jigs.

Can you confirm the XP 744 is an ex-fast action? Dobyn's site lists it as a fast action.Or is this a new model I'm not seeing? Anyway as a follow up question...How does the DX744 action compare to the Champ 735 ?

It would probably be easier to just call Dobyns and ask. The site has it listed as a Ex Fast action under the Champion XP line, but under the Extreme HP line it is listed as a fast.

I use a Champ 764c for this size flipping jig and a HP 744 for this size football jig in open water.

The action is just the slightest bit slower on the 735, but trust me, i own both rods and you want a 5 power for jigs.

If you can make the jump to the DX series the 745 is the best jig rod I've ever used and I've tried a bunch in that price range and below. I'd rather fish a jig than anything.

The DX 745C is one of the best, however try the DX 784c.
