    RT188 top speed

What are you guys seeing? I am getting about 45 MPH in ideal conditions at about 55-5600 RPM max, that's about as good as it gets. 115 OptiMax

My buddy has an RT188 and about 45 mph is about top end with the 115 hp motor.

    I've actually gotten over 50 a couple of times. Merc 4s 115 , re-cupped 20pitch Trophy11 prop, 4" setback, 50% of trim tabs.

Those rpm's look to be a little high.

I've got 50 a few times by myself in the winter. The conditions have to be right. I have a 2017 115 ProXS 4S. It's more of a 45 mph boat day in and day out and to be honest it sees lots of time in the 30's.

45 is pretty normal unless you do a lot of tuning with props and motor depth etc. not a "speed boat" for sure.

That was taken before the prop work was done. Runs at 5900 now. And like most I probably run most of the time at about 35mph.

Mine is a 2015 with Mercury 4 stroke and a 21 pitch Laser II on a 4" setback plate. It runs 41-42 loaded with 550 lbs of driver and passenger. 43 with just me. I really need to buy or try a 20 pitch Laser or a 19 Spitfire for mine and see if I can get a few more mph out of it.

I have the same year and model motor with the same prop and setback plate. I'm getting 46 by myself and 44 with a passenger and gear. Not sure the difference, but I don't carry much gear at all.

Maybe mine is more of a motor mounting height issue. I need to look and see which holes mine is mounted in. I get great performance out of it. Jumps out of the hole good even with three guys and livewell full. Just not the top end numbers the other guys are getting. I thought if the lake froze over this winter I may send my prop to Cronxton to have it repitched to a 20 and have some cup added. I wish I had a merc monitor on it to get some true rpm readings. My gauge shows somewhere in that 5400-5600 even with the cool water temps we have right now in Missouri. Maybe I will run in to someone around here with a 20 pitch prop to let me try and see if it helps before sending mine off and possibly not getting any better numbers by repitching it.

Analog tachs are notorious for not being accurate. When I installed my MercMonitor there was a 250 rpm difference. Analog my max RPM’s was reading almost 5900 rpms. Actual according to the monitor it was a little above 5700 with my 115 Optimax’s max RPM being 5750. So he more than likely is okay on rpms. Besides if he really was running that high he’d probably heard his motors alarm go off.

I have a 188 115 4s merc mounted in the 3 rd hole . 45-46 gps tournament load . 5600 rpms analog tac with laser 2- 20p cupped. Recently put on hyd steering and 4 inch set back. Haven't run it much to see any improvement in speed. Handling has greatly improved. May try an x-7 -19 p in the spring.
