    295 Pro Motor Question

I have a new to me 295 Pro - 1992 year, and I have to re-power it. I am planning on using a 150 HP Johnson on a 6"jackplate as I have that in hand. How poor of a choice is that? It had a 200 Johnson that has "gone the way of all flesh" unfortunately. Any idea what type of speed I will see out of a 150?
    Thanks for your feedback.

That boat should run OK with a good 150. Shouls see high 50s maybe 60. If you have a 150 ready to go then put it on and prop it to 6K rpm WOT. I would guess a 23 tempest or Renegade might work good on that combo.

Good info, except I would prop it closer to 5750, not that it wont turn 6K but the power on the 150's falls off after 5700. A 23 Tempest of Gade worked with a bit of extra cup to help lift that bow should work good!

i see all kinds of problems here,i am sure the power point on that johnson is 5500 not 6k it will not live at 6k look at the tag on the motor, and what motor is it (carb or ???) if its a faststrike motor it needs a 14x24 raker and a real world speed will be around 52-54 mph,i would try to trade or sell it and put a 200 on it if the boat is real nice,if not throw the 150 on it and go fish

I appreciate the fact that 150 may be a bit underpowered, but where I fish the difference between 65 MPH or 52 MPH equals a difference of 2 minutes commute time. I can live with that.

    I have a 1992 295 PD with a 150 Evinrude intruder. With a full tournament load,
    3 -31 series agm batteries it will run about 50 mph @ 5200 rpm. I am running a 23p
omc 4-blade prop. Holeshot is good until livewells are full and gas tank is full. Not
a bad holeshot, but makes a difference. With just me onboard it does great. Also have a
    Bob's 6" hyd jackplate.

Did you sort out your motor issue?

If not, give Paul at Top Gun Marine in Innisfil a call. He's got piles of stuff and loads of motors and can probably help you out.

He doesn't have (or need) an internet presence. PM me for his number and address.
