YES!!! Last year I put a lot of pressure on myself to help her get a deer but her health and uncooperative critters didn't let it happen. This year we're in a different place and it all came together. 50 degrees and we still had to dress her up like the Sta-Puffed Marshmallow Man so she wouldn't freeze. Fortunately all it took was one hour in the ladder stand. She hunted as an adult this year so she was pretty excited to get one by herself. I helped her to climb up and get tied-off before she sent me away.
One shot from 35 yds with her 7mm-08 Hawkeye dropped the little doe in her tracks. Recoil was a huge concern (for me anyway) since she still has treatment hardware in her chest and stomach. I went with Remingtons Managed Recoil. I figured it cut felt recoil to about 2/3 of the .243 that she used to have. She said it didn't feel like much more than a .22 with all that clothing on (that might have been the adrenaline talking too). Still, I think it's a great combination for kids and they can graduate to standard loads when they're ready.
