Not sure either what the original post is about but for one thing no Evinrude or Johnson is afraid of salt water. Doing a water pump service on a 1975 model 115HP Johno today so over 40 years old and still going strong-original head gaskets on it too and original twin tube water pump housing on the old girl. We see plenty of 30 and 40 year old E/J still running down here and we basically only go boating here in Sydney in salt water. Do not see 40 year old other brands surviving in our salt water.

My saltwater motor has never been in freshwater. I am surprised its still holding together pumping all that freshwater through it...and if you don't think I have a Saltwater Approved motor then look at the pic in my avatar.

I have seen my fair share of salt water OMC's that I would rather junk than try to loosen any nuts and bolts.

Yep, tell us ole country backwoods boys all about the pros and cons of the salt water motors. Maybe we can request BRP to introduce freshwater and brackish water motors in next years line up.
