Speed with tournament load xb-21 BasSport Pro / 250 xs

I'm sure you guys have discussed this many times but I've been out of the game for a few years.

Saturday, I ran my boat with me (180#), my son (160#), full fuel, full livewell, 12 rods, medium tackle load, spare prop & drinks/ice in cooler, 24V troller.

I've only had it out twice so I'm still learning the hydro plate but I "think" the prop shaft was about 1/4" below pad, water pressure was 25+ psi at WOT.

    27 TXP, 1.62 SM @57-5800 rpms ran 82.8 mph.

I bumped the trim a few extra bumps but the speed did not increase so I bumped it back down.

My boat has the motor wedges installed and I was running 7.8 on the trim. I bumped it to about 8.2-8.3 but didn't see any gain.

I had plenty of water pressure so I'm guessing I could have raised the plate a little more but I didn't want to swap ends.

What is the average top speed for this set up with similar load, mid 80s?

Raise the plate until the pressure drops to 20 psi at WOT., it should fish 2 at 86+ pretty easy.

Johnny carried 3 people in that boat at Clifton at 83

Tim, what's the "turn around" threshold for lack of a better term? Meaning, what prop shaft height is getting on the edge with these hulls?

Truthfully load, conditions, prop, and setback (I run 8" no wedges) are all factors. Comfort level with the setup is also a big factor. I mainly run my prop shaft at 3/8" above with a passenger and fishing load but do not tournament fish so my livewells are always empty. I have ran 1/2 over with a passenger in good conditions as well. 1/2" over is my normal solo height unless its bad water then I drop to even or 1/4 below for less strain on the prop. I have experienced a few blowouts but have avoided the bat turn but I do not feel height was the number one issue...overly aggressive trimming I believe caused all of mine. I did run 9/16" above loaded minus the livewells with only issue hitting a rogue wave and going into guardian but boat sat down nicely at 93.XX. Hope this will safely help you.
I have ran a 25 TXP OT4 and a 28 OT4 as high as 3/8" without issue. Never tried that prop at 1/2 above. I run a 30 Promax at that height and to date I have not blown it out or had any issues at all. All blow outs have occurred with borrowed props that I pushed to hard to quickly most happening in the 60/70 range that were non eventful.

If you keep the pressure at 20 at WOT you will be fine.

nope. It will drive even better for you once you get it up as well. Even-1/2” over seems to be sweet spot load dependent

Your plate should be almost all of the way up for max performance, you should barely be able to put your thumb between the bottom roller and the U shaped turn in the bottom of the slide. Pressure at WOT will be right around 20-22.

I set plate as you described which I measured to be about 1/4" above and ran it today, definitely better.

Me (175#s) and my son (160#s), 3/4 fuel, 15 drinks, spare prop, normal fishing load, etc., ran 87 mph with 20+ psi h2o.

I was only at 7.2 trim, I'm pretty confident there was a little more left but ran into some boat traffic.

I didn't get a chance to run WOT any the rest of the day.

Not too terrible for an old TXP

I will say that I love the mid range pull on this boat.

There is no doubt in my mind that with a little ripple on the water, carrying a full load, 2 men, with the jack up to where water pressure is 15 or better that boat, on a cool day, will run 6100 rpms, and 90 to 91. If my measurements were accurate the plate will be about 1/2" high at 9 on your guage right now. Confirm that before taking my word on that as gospel. I never saw water pressure below 15 at WOT BTW.

I think I remember measuring the prop shaft at 3/4" above the pad with the hydro plate all the way to the top. It's above the top marks on the hydro plate gauge but water pressure is the best thing to watch for sure.

I'll say again the mid-range is a lot of fun!

That's running great. There's more in it no doubt.
Take your time to get use to it before you worry about every last mph.
