    1989 Johnson 175gt water deflectors

I have pulled off the heads and found that some of the water detectors had deteriorated so badly that they were restricting water flow. Had slow kick in on my last outing.I have changed all with 6 new deflectors, but the top and bottom ones on both sides of the block does not want to go in flush like the middle ones. Still protrudes about 1/4" from the block.

My question; is this the normal position or do these need to be flush like the middle ones on either side of the block.I checked my manual and it does not give a spec.

    Serial is J175STLCEB.

    Thanks for the help.

So while putting the heads back on I broke 2 of the spark plug lead retainers in half. Looked those up and they are $7 a piece. Any cheaper fixes for these. Seems pretty steep for a flat bendy piece of metal covered with plastic. Looks like you could just use j clamps from Lowe's to hold back the plug wires.

They sell rubber coated clamps you can use at Lowes and Home Depot.
