2016 Mercury 4 stroke 115 not going into last gear

    Serial number is 2B228075.

For some reason my motor is having a difficult time getting into the last gear and staying in last gear at WOT. It just started doing this. I have 130 hours on the motor and all fluids were changed back in March 2017. It usually runs 51 mph loaded and now will not get over 44 mph. Is there a simple fix for this?

An outboard has a single ratio drive. They do not have multiple ratio gears. You say your top speed is reduced but what about your RPM? Are you slower at the same wide open RPM or is your max RPM reduced also?

The motor revs up and back down at WOT. Sounds like it's shifting gears. Similar to pushing the overdrive button on a car.

Sounds to me like you need to trim some right before it loses RPMs. When you trim a motor, it does sort of sound like you're shifting gears because it just takes off. Same thing will happen if you trim down too much, it will all of a sudden slow down.

Possible you spun (AKA broke) the hub in the prop?
