    Raymarine/Smartcraft interface

Anyone here with knowledge interfacing Raymarine with Smartcraft? Have an a78 (shoulda gone bigger) I've been running since 2015 and also have a level 2 Mercmonitor. My original setup was an A68 I used as plotter only (DS600x was my sonar) and fed GPS to Mercmonitor using 0183. When I upgraded to a78 and N2k I inquired on the Ray tech forum for proper components to install an N2k network with Smartcraft and the discussion is still available on the old Ray tech forum - http://raymarine.ning.com/forum/topi...ne-for-new-a78

I've never been able to get GPS data via Smartcraft to use ECO feature (real time MPG) which is something I really like having. I'm sure I could revert back to 0183 but don't understand why I can't get the network to supply info. This should be simple, but if N2k won't work, I'll go back to 0183 just hate messing with 28awg wire.

Any insight appreciated, oh, boat is 80mi away so can't just run out and check something.

Looks like your Merc gauges are 0183, not 2k.

Are the newer gauge 2k might try swapping it out if it’s cheaper.

My Mercmonitor is N2k. When I upgraded to the a78 I created the N2k network per Raymarine tech forum advice but am not getting GPS data.

I have changed Mercmonitor settings from 0183 to N2k.

I'm sure it's something simple, but Raymarine tech forum couldn't help and I know it should work.

Does the Smartcraft show up as a device in the device list on the maintenance page?

    Hickory - Yes.

Hunter - Now that's a good question, one I've not been asked before. Won't have an opportunity to check until this time next week. Will post back next time I visit the boat.

Be sure to scroll down when you get to the device list to make sure you look at all devices.

    Here's the device list:

    a78
    CP200
    SeaTalk-STNG-Conv

Mercmonitor is not listed so is it as simple as adding it as a new device or do I need to start elsewhere? Thanks for any suggestions.

Move the Tee with the Mercmonitor to the other side of the power tee. If it is, try another tee maybebe the power pin or another pin is bad on that tee.

If I remember correctly, there is a setting in the Mercmonitor that needs to
change from transmit only to transmit/recieve.

Also, do you have a separate PWR T on the N2K or are you using the Mercmonitor as the power source. Either is fine, just make sure you only use one. You can pull the fuse out of the Mercmonitor lead to prevent two power sources.

I believe you have to have a power tee for the network to work power doesn’t come off anything hooked up!!

The Mercmonitor does power the NMEA network. I have done it.

If that is the case, once you turn the motor off, do you lose the NEMA and everything on it like heading or GPS indicator if they’re external! Does the Merc monitors stay powered up all the time?

The NMEA network stays powered with the motor off. It never ran down the battery either. I’m not sure how that part worked. Hopefully Don will weigh in.

Discussed this with Don via PM a year or so ago and suggested I try using MM vs N2k powered T - had same results with both.

06 - I'm sure I have the MM settings correct, but will double check on the 29th when I go back again.

Really appreciate the feedback, I'm sure it's something simple. Check the link I referenced at top of this thread for the layout as recommended, and followed, by Raymarine. It will be nice to have GPS input to MM again.

Talked to a Mercury Mechanic today.
The smart craft does power the mercury stuff plugged in but it does not talk in NMEA 2000 language. You will have to get an adapter to interface between the NMEA back bone and the smart craft gauges.

    Plug and Play!!

Maybe this gateway but I have no ideal.
