Angry 1988 Mercury V175 - No Power and using tons of fuel - help please

My 1988 Mercury V175 is not producing power and is using way more fuel than normal. It starts and idles as it should

    • Recently had the carbs rebuilt
    • Fuel is fresh with new fuel water separator filter
    • All cylinders have fire and compression is 135 psi on all cylinders
    • All new plugs
    • Takes along time to get on plane
    • Using tons of fuel
    • Once on a plane max RPM's is 4900 with a top speed of 45. Before issue top speed was 60 at 6000 RPMs.

I would really appreciate any direction on this one.

The carb rebuild would be my first place to look. If the floats were not set properly the motor would be low on power and use a lot of fuel.

My mechanic told me this morning it was the "High side of the ignition system". Not sure what that means

He's correct....replace the Stator and start saving for new Switch boxes.
