How big are youtlr baits you are throwing? Try a belly weighted hook by chance?
Where are the BIG ones? When are we going?

Granted, the fish I am after are very heavily pressured, so they typically hang very close to the bottom/rocks, and a lighter weight, which might float above the structure, not only decreases bait “feel” but also may stay inches above their strike zone. You have to let the fish tell you what they want, but after 30-some years of bass fishing on Erie, I’ve melted down almost all of my 1/8 and 3/16 jigs to recast as heavier. Zebra mussels are filling in a lot of our smaller cracks between rocks, too. 15 years ago, with much larger and more numerous openings, lighter and heavier jigs might have hung up nearly the same. How you work the bait, and even hold your rod tip, makes a difference as well.
