I have a 2016 Laramie Longhorn Ecodiesel, has about 37k on it now, been an awesome truck and pulls my Ranger 185 VS easily, i average about 24 MPG highway/city, when I am towing the baot i get 18-19mpg. I was lucky to get 18 mpg in my old chevy with nothing in tow.

Motori developed it around 08-09. They have been dealing with diesels for along time. Some early ones had cam/pump issues but other than that I haven’t seen a lot of issues.

I drove a civic for the 100 mile round trip for work but with both kids driving I hate to have another vehicle setting around so I'm gonna be driving the truck for work and play which is why I'm even considering the idea. Wish Ford or Chevy would get in the 1/2 ton diesel race.
Ford is coming out with their 3.0 Powerstroke this spring.

2016 Laramine with Eco-Diesel with 22,000 miles. Not a hiccup! Pulls my 20' Flats boat better than my previous 2015 5.7 Hemi. Mileage is 27 -29 Highway and 15 - 19 pulling the boat.

How would a 1500 EcoDiesel compare to a Toyota Tundra 5.8 in towing? Only towing by Ranger Z520L. Would it be a substantial difference in power and MPG when towing? Without?

Only thing the 5.8 will do better is win a race and drink gas. There nice trucks and tow well but no gas truck will tow as well as a diesel unless its a ford ecoboost. The diesel will shine in towing mpg, empty mpg and overall towing performance.
