Upgrading Electronics, what layout do you prefer?

I currently have a HDS10 Gen2 at the console and a HDS8 Gen2 at the bow. I am getting two HDS9 Gen3s for an unbeatable price, but I am not sure how I want to lay it all out. My initial thought is to put both HDS9 Gen3s on the console with a Precision Sonar type mount or similar, and move the 10 up front and sell the 8. How do those with two graphs on the console like their layouts? Any other good ideas?

I spend a lot of time in southern KY and northern TN playing the ledge game, so having a dedicated side imaging unit would be awesome.

    Thanks.

I would do as you listed, BUT keep the 8 up front for full screen mapping.

I hate the rectangle screens that Lowrance went to on the 9's....I have both 9 and 10 and prefer the square on 10...

Keep the 8 at dash solely for side imaging and use the 9 for map/2d/di
sell 10 get more money than an 8.
Yet again you may want more screen up front too and keep both Gen 2 units.

Best advice you will get...as long as it is working, until you can afford the 9 Carbon with its much improved resolution.

Is this saying the resolution on the Gen2 units is better than the Gen3?

I would put dual 9"s on the dash and the ten on the bow while keeping the 8 for spare or dual on the bow. If I went dual on bow I would have mapping and tm 2d (di if needed) and transom 2d di/si off the transom. For me not having to ask if the anchors reach or knowing if the rear is blowing over the ledge is very usefull. Carbons can use two sonar inputs at the same time.

I’d have a 9 at the bow with an HDI transducer on the TM so I could have down scan at the front. The 8 at the front for full screen mapping and the 9 and 10 at the helm. Specifics of mounting at the help up

It has the best pixel ratio of all 3 units you have. The 8s have been known to produce the sharpest and clearest images.

That is really interesting, will have to experiment with it.

Randy T is right. The HDS 8 Gen 2 has a better picture than the 9 Gen 2 or Gen 3 which both have the same pixel setup.

I wish I still had my 8 and would replace a 9 Gen 2 in a heartbeat for side scan. The new Carbon Series greatly increased the pixel count on the 9 series. I have not seen any screenshots but they should be much better than the 9 Gen2 and 3 and probably better than the 8 Gen 2.

If I did that, I wouldn't be able to afford my new batteries and Ultrex. Unfortunately not an option.
