    Jackplate ft 201 DCR ?

    I have a 93 201 dcr with a 96 merc 225 efi
Right now it has a 6 inch cmc plate but I don't feel like it's lifting and getting on its actual running pad all the way.
Today I'm buying a 10 inch slide master brand new (super super cheap $100)
Pat will this help my lifting problem ?
    I'm running a 26 tempest plus.
Transom is solid as new , this boat would be hard pressed to have 300 total hours and set covered in a barn most its life while my uncle was sick

What are your current numbers now? Speed at WOT(full trim), RPMS and current prop to pad?

I've had a 201 since new, original motor was a GT150 the motor was mounted to the transom. I repowered with to a 200 and installed a 9.5" Rapid Jack plate on it. Ran in the mid 60's all day with a load in it. Sold that motor and went with a 225 HO and ordered new backing plates so I moved it in 2" to 7.5". I don't have much run time on the new set up but with the 9" you could feel it in your butt when it got up on the pad. On them old 201's they sometimes run better with the motor slapped right on the transom.

If you have cable steering, you may have a problem with the 10" plate, depending on the length of them.

The 201/225 is a solid 65 mph boat... tournament load. Every mph over that is a bonus. 68 ain’t bad.
Mounted straight to the transom will give best handling. Setback 6 to 8 inches best top end.
10” is too much plain and simple. I would keep the setup you have and maybe get your prop tweaked. A great price on a 10” plate is not worth the headaches that much of a setback will cause. You will lose speed and performance.

You asked if adding a 10” plate will help your lift problem. I can’t believe it will.

The generally accepted sweet spot for a 201/225 is 6 to 8 inches. IIRC, Pat has recommended 8” to anyone who has asked this question in the past (including me). Any more than that and you will be behind the bubble and will lose speed and handling. It’s also generally accepted that every individual situation requires some experimentation to find the best setup so maybe...

I bought my boat new and ordered it with a 5.5” CMC hydraulic plate. I ran it for about 15 years that way. Later. I added the 2.5” spacers for a total setback of 8” and ran that setup for about 5 years. It was fine that way, too. This year I replaced the 225 with a 250 HO G2 which has a built in setback of 4” more than most other motors. I tried it with the CMC hydraulic plate without the spacers for a setback around 10”. It was fast but handled poorly. I pulled the plate and mounted it straight to the transom for a functional setback of 4”. Handling much improved and it was faster... almost 3 mph faster.

So, that’s my experience with different setback distances. Hope it helps.

Have your prop worked. 6 inches is plenty.

My 201 w A 6 inch Detweiler, 200 Merc and a Josh Edwards worked Tempest has all kinds of lift. Very little of the boat in the water when trimmed. Super fun to drive

Why did you remove the motor?

    Start a new conversation please.
201 runs good with 6” of setback. If you’re not running high enough look at your prop and motor height.

Materman, as Pat requested, please start a new thread about your 183. It is too confusing when you switch subjects in the middle of a thread about something else.

Are you trying to type on a phone?
