    250 Pro XS Trim Problem

2007 250 Pro XS, serial number 1B521005 on Triton 20XS

This is a post for a bud of mine in my bass club, trim is intermittent - when it fails, it will not work from the bow switch, throttle switch or engine switch. When it works it works just fine from all 3 locations. He has had it fail, put boat on trailer, towed it down the road and when he gets home everything works as required, which leads us to believe its a loose wire or corrosion on a spot but we have not found anything yet. Both the up and down Trim Relays have been replaced.

So is there a common electrical plug to check that effects all 3 trim switch locations? Any other recommendations?

    Thanks in advance

When mine did that it was the trim motor itself. It’s usually the brushes inside the motor. The vibration from trailering allows them to make contact again. To check the wiring, the next time it does it check the voltage at the bullet connectors under the cowl. If you get voltage at the connector with the switches and no movement tap on the trim motor and see if that gets it going. If it does you can try disassembling and cleaning the brushes but if the corrosion is significant you will just have to replace the trim motor.

Replace BOTH trim relays, then retest.

Is there power at the trim motor, when the problem occurs ?

Check the power and ground connections for the relay harness. If they are clean and tight, it is likely that the trim motor is failing, and will need to be replaced.
