"The plaintiffs — well-known taggers from New York, London and elsewhere — said developer Jerry Wolkoff broke the law by covering up the graffiti mecca without giving them time to retrieve their work."
Well, it probably is tough to come up with that much Silly Putty on such short notice.
Who controls John Gill?
Uh, why was this law not invoked when they were tearing down statues? Isn't that art? This case is not only brought on behalf of plaintiffs, but it sends a message to everyone that the unlawful destruction of artwork will not be tolerated. If anyone violates federal law under the Visual Rights Act, they must be held accountable,” added Baum.

Didn't they break the law in the first place by painting the graffiti? This is the crazy mentality we live with now. I can break the law anytime I want to, then I can quote a law you broke that affects me, and want justice. Wacky....

More importantly, how does one retrieve their "art" when it is spray painted to a building?

A bunch of fools looking for a hand out.. that's what it amounts to.. I hope they get what they deserve, Nothing.
Leased for a number of years. That DOES change things. The owner MAY have done that to keep the buildings from becoming 'protected' as there is some merit to it becoming an 'Icon'. He wants to tear them down. Once they get 'protected' status it is a long uphill battle to reverse it. This way he pays a fine and tears them down.
How is that any different from someone breaking into your house to steal or worse (breaking the law), and then you shoot them in self defense, but don't kill them....so they come back and sue you for maiming (yes, it IS a law and does happen here in VA and other states) ??

Not really. He planned on tearing this building down, planned it for years. That's why he never cared if they pained on the walls. The article never says why he spent money on painting the building ( city on his Azz probably), because he did tear the building down.
The article is from 2015-------- BUT the snowflakes probably mentioned it to a lawyer friend over tea and crumpets and he said-----We will sue the bastage for destroying your art.

So are you saying you would be okay if this was a historic building and it was defaced with graffiti? If he is the owner he should be allowed to do as he pleases, IT'S HIS BUILDING....get it? If it was of significant importance the local city should have purchased it from the current owner.
