    TR22 Coment/Question

bought a custom Tempest 25 from Steve’s Prop Shop @ Lake Fork in Texas. Here’s the details.....

    Fastest I’ve been in my 04 Triton TR22 w/25 Opti - 62.7
Fastest during break in (new powerhead @ 5400 RPMs) - 66.4

If your looking for a new prop you need to call Steve’s. Josh worked my prop and I live in Florida. Not only is it faster but it handles great, the hold shot isn’t bad, and obviously the top end is better. I’m sure the motor will loosen up and I may get another mph or 2 out of it. Now to tweak my jack plate to see if I can gain.

The jp I have is a 6” manual and it “hops” a little at lower rpms. I blame it on a heavy boat (it doesn’t bother me) but I was wondering if y’alls don it also?? May buy a 10-12” manual jp to try and get the boat up a little more. May also help with hole shot, top end, and “the hops”. Would a larger jack plate help hole shit and top end?

    04- TR22
    04- 225 Optimax
    5400 RPMs
    tempest 25
    6” Manual JP
    motor 3 1/8” below pad
    20psi water at top end

8 or 10 will be all you need. I have a 8" Atlas hydraulic on my Tr-21 and it made a world of difference on mine.

What prop were you running before? You should see right around 70 with that boat unless you have it loaded to the gills
there was one in our old club with a 250 that would run mid 70's

Had a trophy+ 24 thatbran 61-62 and then a trophy 24 that ran 56-58 (before the motor blew)

just out the worked tempest on the boat and fastest with little over 1/2 fuel and full oil reserve was 66.4. I do have a talon on it and I weigh 240.

Everyone keeps saying 70’s and some people with tritons that I have talked to say they hit 70’s but I’m not seeing it. The boat is faster with the new powerhead and custom prop. Not sure how to get this thing to 70’s.

I would suggest getting a few more hours on the motor a 10 inch plate set the motor around 2-3-4 inches and try a set of trim extenders if you can get that motor up to 5700 rpms you will be where you need to be. I wouldn't run the trim extenders any longer than to test them if they work get some wedges. I won't comment on the prop. The 25 should be right .

Sweet info. Never heard of trim extenders :) I’ll look into them for sure! Right now I have 3.25 hours on the break in. I haven’t ran it at WOT for longer than 1-2 mins yet and it is running strong. I’m going to continue to run between 4000-5200 rpms for the next few trips just to make sure it’s good to go. The owners Manuel says I’m good for WOT after 1 hours as long as I don’t stick at any RPM gor longer than 10 mins. I’ll take the side of coation this time around :) I’m gonna also look into getting a 10” plate. Can’t go hydro unfortenrtyly lol. Unless my wife doesn’t know about it lol.

Are the plates hard hard to install??

If you do the plate yourself just make sure you seal it up good .
do not run the extenders very long if they make difference you will need to buy some wedges and install them

Been reading about the extenders. Everyone else has said the same thing that they are a temp solution and can cause problems. Not to say that I’m not happy with 66.4 but I would love to be one of the 70+ Triton owners. I think a lot has to do with the setback. Sucks that I have a 225. Would be nice to have a 250 on it lol

If that motor is a regular 225 opti max you may never see 70, it will only push a tr21 72-73. You could add 2" spacers and get 8" of setback and that will help. You don't need a 10 or 12" plate either unless your going to run a 300 on it.

I run a 2001 225 opti, 25 tempest plus, 5 1/2 CMC jackplate and run 69-70 all day long in the summer. That's with 1/2 tank of gas and 2 ppl as well.

He's in Florida where it's hot and humid most of the year and that makes a big difference in power. He will probably need two props a 25 for winter and a 24 for summer.

what do you mean a regular 225? I know there are 2 power head models for this year motor. when i had the head replaced they sent the wrong one first and my parts wouldnt bolt up to it.

A "Regular Optimax" is NOT a ProXS Optimax.
