Got a new rod as a gift.
Did not register it.
Do not have the receipt.
Broke on first hook set.
10 lb mono....full cast.
Contacted company, they said to send them $30 on their 'oops' program for a new one.
I'm appalled.
Don't know what to do, as I don't want to upset good friend that gave me the rod.
I'll buy nothing from that company....ever.
What would you do?
30 covers shipping, tube, and admin. given you have nothing to prove the purchase, they are doing alright by you.
Never speak to the friend again. Life is hard enough and then you have people give you something that breaks first time you use it.

If rod is worth more than $30 I would pay $30 and get a new rod. I have paid $60 for a $200 rod as an oops. I called them told them the truth that it was broken no Fishing related I was happy to pay that price.
Really you’re going to complain that the company is charging you $30 to replace a rod that you didn’t register, have receipt for and you broke it? I say good customer service from the company is what you should be talking about in this thread not the other way around.
So, I gotta ask, did you land the fish anyway, or hookset not hard enough?

Sounds like a stand up company to me. Post the name of said rod company. Sending you a new rod for $30 that you have no receipt on, no proof of purchase, or anything. Be happy they’re doing that for you.

I say we re-gift the broken rod back to him for Christmas.
After he rejects the gift in an awkward conversation, take the rod back and hit him up for the $30.
What do you think they should do for you? Like others have said it sounds like they are doing plenty for you.

So you won't do business with a company because they won't cater to you and break policy on a rod you didn't register? You're getting treated just like everyone else and sounds like that company is a great company do to business with. $30 for a new rod, no proof of purchase and no registration is amazing.
Send the $30 in and get a new rod. Even in the end, you're still coming out on top.
