Our military has been stretched thin after the draw downs the past several years.

I heard on the news that they won't need to call back pilots that don't want to be there. I guess many are volunteering to come back into the service.

It could be a decent deal for pilots recently hired at an airline. Take military leave while accruing your seniority at your airline. We had lots of guard and reserve pilots that were furloughed from the airline after 9/11, many went back and got an active duty retirement.

I've worked with several of late that did that and are now going right back after their private sector pensions.

It's not just pilots. They have in fact raised the minium age for commisioning pilots to 40 yo. I missed it by 6 years. on a serious note, us in aircraft maintenance are spread critically thin. If i cant fix the planes now, how the He!! can the airforce aquire more pilots. What are they going to fly?? With this continuing resolution, manning shortages, parts that have been overhauled/modified thousands of times and a shortage of govt contracts its impossible to get things done. Sorry for the rant, i just live this every day.
