    Several years ago I once saw a 48 boat tournament do a shotgun start. It was very unsafe and you had better had a good pucker factor or your ass was coming unglued. They had multiple times of 30 plus doing a shotgun start. After having a close call I decided to just wait about 30 seconds for the madness to clear and took off behind everyones else.

    All tournaments I fished in the 80s were shotgun starts. I had a 90hp Johnson motor so I just gravitated to the back of the pack before the start. Nothing to it.
