I installed HDS-9 with LSS-2 (not the 2D transducer as I have another Lowrance running 2d on dash)

my problem is most of the times it stalls and then restarts and usually has lines on the screen, like interference....then sometimes, it works well and is clear like the other pics I see on here and other fishing sites discussing Lowrance SS

I have read that I have to have the 2d transducer to get the structure scan to work properly.
Does anyone know if that's what might be causing my issues?

I there is no 2D-ducer connected, the HDS will use downscan to orient the sidescan-image on your screen. So in THEORY you do not need the 2D-ducer. But here comes the drawback: downscan as a source for depth is very unstable, and every time the HDS looses depth it will have trouble orienting the sidescan-image. This will again put massive strain on the units processor, and that can lead to other problems as well.

Therefore I would NOT recommend using only LSS (or StructureScan 3D), always include a 2D-ducer in the mix.
