You're old. I bet you wrote a list before you went to the auto parts store, and forgot to take it with you.
I once looked all over the garage then later found the cap in the Autozone plastic bag with the new filters

I had the exact same thing happen with my wife's van. Sometimes I change the oil, sometimes I pay to have it done. Didn't bother checking who had done the last change, didn't matter. The point is that there was no oil spray on my car either and I assume it was because of the baffle described above.
Please release me,let me go.
The last time I used one of those quick oil change places nearest out our house with the zit faced Oil “technicians” they left off my oil fill cap. Honestly. I drove out of the garage, stopped just to check (I have trust issues), and the oil fill cap was laying on top of the manifold. I was slightly unhappy to say the least. Walked back inside, and had to interrupt Ferris Bueller while he was answering a text (while working on the next car). Mystery solved. Took it up with the Manager (the oldest guy in the shop at probably 25) and gnawed a little. He promised to address it with the guy. Probably sent him a text.
I’ll do it myself, or let one of the real live mechanics at the tire and service center I use do it. The kids can go flip burgers.

Is it catching? Tried out a JD tractor a couple of weeks ago. 1025R I think. Demo model. I have a 60" Woods mower - 3 point hitch - I wanted to see if the tractor would/could handle the mower. It did ok. Tractor had a few issues. Anyway, went today to hook up mower back to my existing tractor. Where did my clip pins go. They are/were not were I thought I put them. I though. Look everywhere. I though. Jump in truck and run up to JD dealer - which is about 5/6 miles up the road - and picked up 3 more pins. Got back. Backed tractor up to mower to hook up. Guess what, that yo yo is at it again. Clip pin were right there where they should have been - I thought -(BEFORE). i had even looked there -on the mower before I went to dealer. I thought. Seams like I spend more time looking anymore than doing. I need to get rid of that yo yo - i thought. I will give him to anyone on here who wants him. I THINK.
Better lucky than smart sometimes, Jeff - great you found it.
I took apart my Remington Model 700 25-06 years back. Cleaned it put it back together. Took it to the range shot it, when to the ranch and shot a decent 10 point. About 2 years later I noticed a magazine on my reloading bench. I left it out of my 25-06. It feed just fine without it. I put in back in but it was kinda funny.
Before you buy a new one, see if that "710" cap sitting on your workbench will fit.
