New to being a Bullet owner & BBC

    H
Hello Guys & Gals! I have just purchased my first Bullet Boat & I'm hoping ya'll can give me some pointers on set up. I have a mint 1991 20 CC Bullet with a 1995 2.5 liter 200 with light modificatons to the injection system. It has a 2:1 20 in. CLE gear case . I'm having problems trying to find the right type & pitch prop. It has a 15 inch jack plate & the prop shaft is approx. 1 in below the bottom of the boat. I have tried a 28 & big ear chopper & a 30 small ear chopper & its turning about 7200 rpms which I think is too many for this motor. I have tried a 29 SRX also & 7000 RPM. I am considering going to a 1:87 gear case. I'm not trying to make a race boat out of it but would like to see mid 70 to 80 mph, am I dreaming? I would appreciate any suggestions, recommendations or comments as to tame this thing. Thanks for your time advice & suggestions! Happy & Safe boating!

That CLE ain’t a far cry from a SM, but that ratio may be a problem. Can’t remember exactly, but I think certain cle gears were actually built pretty tough and could handle some HP. I could be wrong though.

Thanks guys i'll try & get with Paul Nichols. I'm seriously looking @ getting a 1:87 gear case. We have swapped out the tach so we know its not the problem. I'm sure I'm gonna like the boat a lot better once I get it tamed..

I noticed you said you wasn't looking for a race boat. A 1991 Center console is more of a race boat than a fishing boat. Don't get me wrong you can fish out of them without any issues. That is a lite weight boat and should run some really good numbers speed wise. Make sure you are measuring the engine shaft to pad height correctly. You should be about 1.5" above the pad. Depending on the mods made to the motor the rpm's are probably going to be higher than normal for that motor. Hope this helps.

If no boat and reason, then sounds like someone just trying to give a good deal. Let’s us know when you get that prop and if all is well with it
