    PS-21 or PS-22 Transducer

Adding a panoptix tranducer to a da-ducer stick on the front of one of my boats. It will have to be networked into a 1040XS. Thinking the PS-22 will not work with the older unit and must use the PS-21. Because on this boat, have a PS-31 shooting on the transom, will have to disconnect and reconnect it when using a particular transducer.

    Help me out....with any thoughts

Kind of interested in this myself. Currently running 1040 XS . Have PS 30 and PS 21 networked thru GCV 10 box. Judging on Garmin's update history I would believe if that series has the internal hardware capable it will provide an update to the 1040.

The PS-22 should work with any Panoptix capable unit. The PS22, in order to do both ForwardVu and DownVu would have had to have more memory to store the additional software. But all that is packaged inside that small transducer along with the ethernet connectivity. The Panoptix transducers are actually black box sonars, transducers, and ethernet all in one package.

The way I see it the decision facing potential users is whether they want to pay extra to be able to do either ForwardVu or DownVu. It's pay extra because the PS21 is now discounted. If you know that you are going to be using it only for ForwardVu there is some savings in getting the PS21.

Be aware that using a PS22 on a unit or network with another Panoptix transducer requires a software update that as far as I know, hasnt been released yet. Maybe Todd can tell us if it has been released or if not, when it's coming.

Sorry for muddying the water. Todd's correction follows.

Note that the 8x0/10x0 units and the 721/741 units are not compatible with the new PS22. This is due to additional features that the PS22 will have that those units will not support.

Engineers are currently working on future software to allow for multi-Panoptix configurations, but it is too early in this process to predict availability.

No. Add the 70dv to the list of PS22 non-compatible units.

I hope theres plans to add these units in the future. That’s terrible that units this expensive units that are only a few years old are not compatible with this new transducer. Do we know which mfds are going to be compatible?

I should say historically Garmins website hasn’t been real accurate on compatibility. Seems odd though that the Echomap chirp units and 741xs that came out about the same time and the Echomap is compatible but the gpsmap (premium model) is not.

Anybody happen to know if this ps22 will work on a Echomap chirp 73dv? Doesn’t list it on the website but it doesn’t list the 73dv as compatible with the ps21 either.

PS 22 comes with a barrel mount. If you fabricate a spacer on the shaft mount it’s more better I still prefer the barrel mount though.
Todd should chime in with the compatibility issue. I would think the 73sv should work as is or with s software update.

Yes, the echoMAP CHIRP units that have a Panoptix port are compatible with the PS22.

Why wouldn't any unit like the 70S or the 1040 work with 22 networked through the GS 10 module?

    Just asking

Because the PS22 will have additional features that the PS21 does not have. Older units like you mention simply won't support these added features.
