    Motorguide stiff steering help

    Hello guys & gals
I have a 2015 MG 109 36v TM. It has been very tough to steer with the pedal. I thought it was just due to it being new, but now it has been 2 years & doesn't seem to be any easier than new.
What can I do to make this easier to operate? Kind of to the point of going to MinnKota, been in several rigs with these & like butter to operate.
    Thanks in advance

Is this in a recess with a sharp angle on the steering cables?

That is usually from a bent shaft. The bent shaft puts lots of torque on the motor/steering cables.

Depends on if you do it all the time like I do, or if it's the first time. On a hard scale, probably a 5. On a time consuming, takes me about an hour and there are some "tricks" you need to know. If you order the shaft from me, I can send instructions.

I would say yes sir. But the steering was like that before I installed the recessed tray.
How can I tell if the shaft is bent or maybe the mount is in a bind?

Just a thought. Could the cables be twisted between the footpedal and the head?

flip the foot pedal over and look at the tension nuts where the cable come out of the foot. should be about a 1/4" of threads showing or more where the slot is. If it is less then that is the culprit. I have seen where from the factory there are no treds showing at all. The more tension you put on the steer cables the harder it is to steer. Loosen them up and hope that they are not too stretched and put to much slack in the cable when you loosen them.

Sorry for long time away, other projects were higher priority.
Here's a picture of the bottom side of the foot pedal. Does this look right or do I need to change anything? Remember this is extremely tough to steer under any condition

Look in the top of the trolling motor, take the cable drum off the steering pinion and see if you can move the pedal by hand (using the cables). This will tell you if it's footpedal/cable problems.

John is right. It should be very easy to spin by hand. Looking at that picture the tension looks extremely tight to me. Usually I tighten them by feel and moving the foot pedal back and forth. When I see the end of the threads start to disappear in the slot It usually starts to get very tight and hard to steer. I have seen several troll motors with the tension as shown or greater.
