    2018 Tackle Mod

I thought I would share with you all my tackle mod for my 2018 921. Phoenix changed the compartment, no more rods and no more angled insets. It’s all flat now expect for a small lip on the side shelves. I didn’t like how my original take mod I made years ago fit in 2018. It left a small gap under the king starboard where it tied into the the sides. So I made two boards (walls) that run the length of the compartment. When I made the original tackle mod years ago, I designed it to keep bags of soft plastic from falling onto my boxes and to have a shelf across to store spools of fishing line without them bouncing all over the place. The problem I ran into after making the shelf on the old mod was I couldn’t access the most forward boxes without taking some of the other boxes out first. The shelf covered the boxes up. So I got to thinking.... how do I fix it? After a few minutes it hit me. I have a few extra black trays Phoenix puts in the battery compartment. Wonder if one of the black trays will fit between the two boards (walls) I added. So I go get one of them, drop it in and it fits perfectly. SWEET! Then comes my next issue. I know the black tray is going to slide back and forth, and that’s what I want. The sliding tray lets me access the forward boxes. However I didn’t want the black tray to be right in front of the compartment every time I opened the lid after running down the lake. So I measured the black tray lip and cut a notch on the topsides of the boards (walls). You maybe able to see it in the pics. This worked great when I slid the black tray to the back. It fell right into place and made it all flush. Later I got to thinking more about the tray. Knowing how rough the water can get on Guntersville, I knew the black tray would eventually bounce out of the notches. I then decide to put a strong magnet on the backside of the tray and the bulkhead to insure the tray wouldn't move until I wanted it to. Once I installed the magnet the tray actually snapped into place when slid to the back. I got the magnet off amazon which is a pull of 77lbs. I was concerned the magnet maybe to strong, but it worked perfectly. Tackle Mod 2018 is much simpler and does the same thing as the old.

Looks good. Did you attach the starboard to the walls or is it wedged in?
