    Quick question please.

After selling one of my boats I've got 2 Helix 7s laying around.

I want to put one of them on my console beside my 998 just to use GPS and Navionics.

Can I just pop it on the console, hook power to it and be good to go?

Does it need a transducer connected to accomplish this?

    Thanks guys!

Yep, just turn Sonar OFF and the H7 will be a chart plotter.

    No transducer needed.

It's staying in simulation mode, turned off sonar, not showing my navionics card either... Just power going to it no transducer.

May need to hook up the transducer start it up FULLY in Normal and then set Sonar OFF.

You won't get the Chart view until you get a satellite lock whether the transducer is connected or not.

BTW, I just started up a Helix 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2 on my desk in Normal without a transducer connected, waited until the NO GPS message went off and map displayed, then turned Sonar Off. It is now a Chart Plotter with no sonar views.

    This is a 1st gen Helix 7.

Must be because it's under the boat shed with a metal roof, my 998c isn't getting a gps signal either.... operator error I'm guessing....

    Makes no difference.

You should be able to start, hit exit (normal or simulator) and push power once & turn sonar off.....

If you have "Demonstration" mode on under setup - you can turn that off also.

I haven't figured out how to turn the demo mode off yet...

Can you make all the crap on the left side of a helix 7 screen go away?

Hit menu 2x - set up tab - scroll down - demonstration, choose off.

Yes, on the data boxes - under set up tab too (IIRC) digital readouts... choose boxes off/ or overlay (only speed, depth/ temp).

Demonstration is in the Setup menu, set it to OFF.

The digital readout boxes on the left side can be turned off two ways. First in the Setup menu set User Mode to Advanced
    1. All the time in the Setup menu Digital Readouts Off or Overlay
    2. Only when viewing SI in the Sonar menu as SI Readouts Off

I often forget about "advanced" mode, as they now come out of the box that way and have to be turned to "normal"...

That is one of those items that gets "fixed" when it is not broken.
