making and placing fish attractors-School Project-need ideas-

Hey I know,,,I know,,I dont asked a million questions abou this--But our 5th grade Science/Fishing club will be making fish atttractors out of PVC, buckets, vinyl siding etc etc, I will drop em in a local lake in December-in April/May I wanna go back and record the fish (hopefully) using them--I think it will be pretty neat for the children...
    a couple of questions-

1-How deep of water should I place them for maximum growth and fish usage-the lake I want to use is quite clear-Ive seen clear footage to 15-18 feet deep-

2-I have read somewhere (or seen it somewhere) that sanding the pipes will help with algae growth-anyone ever do that?

    THANKS

This is by far one of the most informative articles I've seen, I refer to it year after year:

    These look good! http://ksoutdoors.com/KDWPT-Info/New...t-Kansas-Lakes
I've made them out of plastic 55 gallon drums. Can attach PVC pipe as "limbs". Takes 2-3 double sided cinder blocks to hold them down.
Look on crappie.com, they have a sub forum just for attractors. You'll find everything you need their.
