Question Rebuild an older hydraulic jack plate.

I was given an older CMC PL-65. While I was testing it, I found that it leaks hydraulic fluid on the down stroke. Can that seal be replaced? I have removed the cylinder from the frame, but I can't figure out how to remove the cap on the bottom to be able to see the seal.

I would think you could take it to a shop and have it repaired for not too much money.

No shops in this area that rebuild them. It's either do it myself, or scrap it and buy another one. Since this is the older model with the motor mounted on the port side of the jack plate, I didn't know if I could find replacement parts for it.

Thanks EL, but that's for the newer HS models. I found those earlier. This one is older and has a cylinder in the center and the motor unit mounted on the port side of the jack plate. No idea what year it is. It was free, so at least I'm not out any money.

Just read on another forum that this one was discontinued several years ago. No replacement parts available for it now. Would still like to know how to remove that cap so I can see that seal.

Cap is either screwed on or welded on. You should be able to see the welds.

No welds. There's a snap ring I can access, but the cap doesn't move when I squeeze the snap rings. It doesn't appear to be threaded either.

I might have one that I took off mine. I replaced it with the new high speed pump. I think the pump quit. I will look and see if I still have it, If so it is yours.

I spoke a CMC tech today. He said the fittings have to be removed from the side of the cylinder before it will come apart. Then I can get to the O ring. We'll see later if he's right.

Cap off. Gonna look for new O rings tomorrow. I hope whoever came up with the snap ring idea on this thing is retired from designing. It was a beast to remove.

I gave him some rules to abide by. He must allow me to repay him either by paying shipping, sending him a gift card to a place of his choice, or allowing me to buy him some new tackle.

Got the pump from limit5 today. Unfortunately, what he sent me is the upgraded design to the PL-65. I'm going to check with a machine shop to see if they can modify the top and bottom plates to allow me to attach it to them.
There's alot of great advice and generosity on this board. I've read many threads where someone needed something, and someone else had it and sent it to them.
