4 OR 6 INCH SET BACK FOR 96 181 DCX

Hey guys.. gonna be adding a manual jackplate this winter motor is currently mounted directly to boat.. will 6 inch be too much for this boat and possibly cause porpoising? i think the 4inch would give me what i need?

    6" is what you want.

And if you have hydraulic steering you should be fine, no modifications. If cable steering you might need longer cables. I ran a 1996 181 elite and put a 6" rapid jack on it. 150hp merc efi 23 tempest prop 60-63mph

cable steering just a bit worried my cables wont be long enough for the 6inch .. i run 58-61 right now depending on load with a 24 raker at 5100rpm. I will be sending the prop away to get worked this winter as well.

Your cables should reach with a 6 inch jackplate....i recommend a rapid jack jackplate..

I believe mine is a 4" setback, retrofit, cables just make it. Zero slack.

I had a 8" plate on my 181 but it also had hyd steering, no handling problems whatsoever and was one of the quickest 181's I knew of.
