Very addicting. I have bought 20 molds in the last year. Needless to say it’s an expensive, but satisfying hobby.

It's a Bass Tackle mold that I bought off here. I've been keeping old baits for a while so remelts don't cost anything. I melted a bunch of junebug lizards for this and some watermelon tubes for the other ones.

Is it more expensive than buying your own soft plastics?

I am seriously considering pouring my own - just hesitant up to this point.

Initial layout will be a little cost. If you can hold your addiction in check it turns around. Re melt your used. Sits, watch the gulp products, they are a no go. Have your buddies kick in to buy a few and in the end you will clear. I find the advantage is you can make colts you like and cannot find on the shelf. Look up baitjunky's, lurecraft, Basstackle, http://anglingai.com. Buy used molds and save.

I generally do not re melt my plastics. I use new plastic. My cost is about $0.90 per bag. At this cost, it makes me change lures alot faster if a plastic is torn. I do find it rewarding to catch fish, or see others catch fish on plastics I made. I enjoy making colors that I cannot purchase.

There is an initial cost to purchase molds. The way I look at it is I can always sell my molds and convert to cash if I no longer want to pour my plastics.

How difficult is it to pour baits that have a different color tail? Like black with a blue tail for example..

Lots of baits that you can get tail molds for that will make multiple tails at once. You could also make blue baits out of leftover sprue to avoid using new plastic & cut tips off & place in mold then inject your black.

How well do the tails bond to the rest of the bait?

just like it us one piece. Trick is to ensure the plastic is hot enough. The mold should be hot as well.

It saves money if it's a bait you use a lot. I tend to go through a bunch of Tubes and Lizards, so having those molds help keep cost down throughout the year. I'd say I sell close to $200 worth of baits, which also helps. I'm not in it to make money. Also, molds hold their value quite well, and I have never had a problem selling them. I even had a few people get in a bidding war for a mold and made $15 on the mold more than what I paid for it brand new.
