    Ring gear replacement

Has anyone ever just replaced the ring gear on the flywheel instead of the whole flywheel. I have a 175gt, j175stlceb that has a couple of worn teeth and I was wondering if replacing the ring gear only was an option.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the response Mr. King.

That is kind of what I figured from doing searches on the net. How much are you asking for the flywheel you have?

    Cheers,

When you get the flywheel and install it, torque to 140-145 foot pounds. Run a heat cycle and re-torque. Also verify new starter and contact with teeth and ring gear. Also, must re-verify TDC and if off, re-do TDC(top dead center) pointer/link and sync per your OMC service manual. Flywheel came off a 175 GT of the same year and had about 500 hours but had ate a piston ring. Those crossflow 35 amp flywheels are scarce as hens teeth and retail for $600 but are NLA(no longer available). Good luck and have fun when finished.

Thanks for the tips. Will follow your advice and follow the manual directions. Will post when done with results. Thanks again.
