New Hill, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a missing person’s case at Harris Lake on Monday evening.

Authorities said they received a report of a boat drifting on the lake with nobody inside at about 1:45 p.m.

The boat was registered to Ellis Rodney McCoy, deputies said, but they do not know if he was the person on the boat before it was found.

Was on Jordan today and mom called because she wasn't sure where I went. Think they have specialized boat coming in to search. Hoping for the best but it doesn't seem good. Heard a boat went by the gentleman and came back by and he was gone but they heard cries. Prayers for the family!

I was a bit surprised there were no more boats on the water than usual it would seem to me. Must not have his life jacket on i reckon for if he did he would have been found quickly i would think. Very sorry for his family, friends and everyone who knew him.

It is being reported he did have a life jacket on and that have not ruled it a drowning yet. Sounds more like a heart attack to me or similar and he feel out of the boat.

"Ellis McCoy was wearing a life jacket when his body was found on Tuesday, authorities said."

Geez reporting is so bad on our local news sites. The above link says he was wearing a life jacket but the video story below say he was not...

No way he was wearing one, if so, it would not have taken so much time to find him. He was in the part of the lake that is only 10-12 ft at the deepest. Sad I would see him crappie fishing when ever I was out.

I agree, first thing they probably do when they search is run around and look for a person on the surface. If the authorities didnt spot him someone else surely would have.

Can not seem to find anything on this and was wondering if they have announced cause of death yet. Figured it may have been a heart attack instead of drowning. Very sad for all his family and friends.
