2012 200 sho with 581 hours. Original power head. Oil, filter, lower unit oil and plugs changed. I have the two square gauges and that’s where I get my readout for total hours.

    3 basic ways:
    1) If you have Yamaha electronic gauges, you can scroll them them for the hours.
    2) If you have a NEMA computable graph, you can buy the harness and wiring and hook the engine to the graph. That will tell you the hours.
    3) When you take it in for service, the dealer hooks it to a laptop for diagnosis, the hours are on the print out they give you as a record of the service.

My SHO has a "born on" date of 2015, put in service November 2016 and has 90 hours as of end of August 2020.

The engine on a bassboat gets cranked up ran hard of 10 minutes then is shut off for 20 minutes then repeated all day long and it just kills the engine very prematurely. Just my opinion.
That’s exactly it. Pontoons and other boats with SHOs never had the issues bassboats did because they are ran different

My 2010 250 Sho was one of the first manufactured. I am the second owner. At around 200 hours it blew on the first owner who got the block replaced under the recall / warranty program. Before that happened he hit a shoal /sand bar and took out the lower unit which was replaced with a new unit at around 160 hours. The engine now has right at 300 hours or about 100 on the replaced power head and 140 or so on the lower unit. I love the engine, it is strong and runs good. I change what I'm supposed to change and I allow it to warm up and down and I do this pretty much each time I start and stop it all day. As has been mentioned I think a lot of the problems with outboards are from going hammer down on a cold engine and / or shutting a very hot engine off without any gradual cool down. The other big problem is that the engines don't have a closed water cooled cooling system like cars and trucks. If a manufacturer could come up with a light weight closed loop cooling system for an outboard then thermostats could be used that would get these engines up to the optimum operating temperature and keep them there. This would allow for proper seating of rings, elimination of moisture condensation from engine blocks, and allow the engines to operate at the best temperature for performance and maximum lubrication efficiency.

My '09 had 223 hrs on it when Yamaha replaced the powerhead in Jan 2012. Have a total of 350 on the motor but only 131 on this powerhead. Don't use the boat as much as I use to.
